About Sellma Soul
Sellma Soul, has been creating on Turrbal and Yuggera Land for over a decade, sharing her experience as a trans woman through many mediums of expression, including drag, music, spoken word, prop making and set building. She is a professional and charismatic force to be reckoned with. Her talents lie in creating physically extravagant concepts using recycled and salvaged fabric, textiles, and whatever she can get her hands on. Since landing a residency at Superordinary, she is focused on creating new and innovative ways of recycling goods into interactive outfits or set pieces.
Sellma has had an illustrious career as a performer. She is a theatre nerd and trained in musical theatre and acting at Harvest Rain, this is where she fell in love with the artistry of drag and pursued a career at the clubs (the Wickham, Fluffy, drag brunch,the beat,the zoo to name a few). Later, she appeared on The Voice in 2019, which introduced her to Ian Dickson who later became her manager. For 4 years, she honed her craft as a singer-songwriter and began working on her first solo project as a musician this year.
Sellma is a taste maker, a hypercreative soul limited only by her imagination and resources
She believes in uplifting the voices and ideas of other Meanjin creatives and focuses on being a strong, proud voice for Trans women while advocating for the betterment of the entertainment industry here in Meanjin.
